Using a cheap MEMS accelerometer to detect seismic waves and analyzing the data with python. I also use my serial read code for interfacing with sensors in other projects because it is capable of reading at millisecond intervals for weeks unattended.
Thermal Camera
Uses an MLX90640 camera sensor and python to view thermal imagery at high rate (but not so high resolution).
